Letter Salad — Privacy Policy

Last updated 11 August 2026

Letter Salad is a word game for iPhone. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, and nothing that follows you between apps. This policy describes exactly what the app does with information, in plain terms.

The short version. The games themselves — Solo, Computer, and Timed — run entirely on your device and work with no connection at all. Information leaves your device in only two situations: when you choose to play Friends, and when the app checks whether you have bought the optional unlock. Nothing is collected for advertising, and nothing is sold.

What is kept on your device

The app saves a few preferences in its own private storage on your device. None of this is transmitted:

Deleting the app removes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else.

What is sent when you play with friends

Friends games are coordinated by a game server so that players in the same room can see each other's progress. While you are in a room, the app sends:

This is held in the server's memory for the length of the game and discarded when the room closes. It is not written to a database or a file, is not logged, is not used to build a profile, and is not shared with anyone. The connection is encrypted.

The server is a personal computer operated by the app's developer rather than a commercial cloud service. Nothing about a finished game is retained on it.

Purchases

Letter Salad sells one optional unlock, which opens Small Salad and the 5 and 10 minute Solo rounds. Everything else in the game is free and works without it.

Apple handles the payment. The transaction goes through the App Store using your Apple ID. Your name, email address, and payment details go to Apple and never reach the developer, who has no way to see them.

RevenueCat records that the purchase happened. The app uses RevenueCat to confirm a purchase is genuine and to restore it if you reinstall the app or move to a new device. RevenueCat receives:

That identifier is not your Apple ID and is not linked to your name, your email address, or your chef name. It cannot be used to work out who you are.

The app asks RevenueCat whether this installation has paid when it opens and when you return to it, so that a purchase restored on another device takes effect without a restart. That check happens whichever mode you play, and the answer is cached so the game still knows what you own with no connection.

Restoring. "Restore purchase" asks Apple whether this Apple ID has bought the unlock before. That question goes to Apple and RevenueCat and comes back as a yes or a no.

None of this is used for advertising, combined with information from other apps or websites, sold, or shared with data brokers. Its only purpose is knowing whether this installation has paid.

What the app does not do

A note on your chef name

Your chef name is free text and is shown to the other players in a Friends game. Please pick something you are happy for them to see. There is no need to use your real name, and we would suggest you don't.

Children

Letter Salad does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. The only thing a player types is a chef name, which is visible only to people already in their game room.

Beta testing through TestFlight

While the app is distributed for testing through Apple's TestFlight, Apple collects installation details, crash reports, and any feedback you submit, under Apple's own privacy policy. That is Apple's process, not the app's, and the developer sees only aggregate crash and feedback information that Apple provides.
